Filming took place from October thru December of 1988 in Dallas and surronding towns. During the filming of the parade scenes it was cold and the extras were dressed in summer clothes making it rough at times. However the excitement of the filming made it a fun time for all.

Ron Kovic spent several months on location during the filming.

Thats Director Oliver Stone in the red jacket leaning on the back of the White Lincoln Continental and crew filming movie extras along S.Edgefield Ave during the parade scenes. Ron Kovic can be seen to the right of the car in his wheel chair. A building in the background was made up to look like an A&P Grocery Store. A&P Grocery stores were a northern chain of food stores.  Click on View Photo Album to the left for more great photos from S.Edgefield Ave.

Filming the 4th of July Parade Scene in the Elmwood Neigborhood of Oak Cliff.

Hundreds of people were used as extras during the 4th of July parade scenes shooting along S.Edgefield Ave and some of the buildings were made up to look like Massapequa Long Island, New York, the hometown of Ron Kovic. The buildings in the photo below had extra building materials added to make them look taller than what they really were.
